Turkey is the largest importer of ferrous waste and scrap worldwide, with nearly 19 million metric tons imported in 2023. This was more than the remaining top three importers combined. The United States ranked fourth, with some 5.1 million tons imported. The North American country was the leading exporter of scrap iron that year.
