In 2021, the share of European food product samples that contained pesticide residues that both exceeded the maximum residue level (MRL) and that contained any quantifiable pesticide residues were lower in organic food compared to conventionally produced food (non-organic), for all food product categories analyzed. Amongst the organic cereals food product group 1.5 percent of samples were found to contain residues of pesticides above the MRL, compared to 3.19 percent of conventional cereal food product samples.

*LOQ: limit of quantification. The lowest concentration of a substance that can be reliably measured.
** MRL: maximum residue level. The maximum amount of residue that is legally allowed to be present in food or feed products.
Non-compliant refers to samples that have exceeded the maximum residue limit (MRL) or have measurement uncertainty that prevents accurate determination of compliance with the MRL.
