Over 80 percent of U.S. respondents to a May 2023 survey would watch TV shows and movies they have already been meaning to watch if the production and release of new content were significantly delayed due to the writers strike. A further 56 percent stated that they would look for existing content that are not on their watch list, while 12 percent would watch more reality TV shows, news, or sports.
On May 2, 2023, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) went on strike as more than 11,000 writers demanded higher pay, fairer contracts, as well as provisions on AI such as ChatGPT.
