In a 2021 analysis of pesticide residues on processed foods in Europe, grape leaves and similar species emerged as the processed food product with the highest share of samples exceeding the maximum residue level (MRL) of pesticide residue with over 69 percent. Among these samples, a 57 percent share were considered non-compliant due to measurement uncertainty.

LOQ: limit of quantification. The lowest concentration of a substance that can be reliably measured.
MRL: maximum residue level. The maximum amount of residue that is legally allowed to be present in food or feed products.
Non-compliant refers to samples that have exceeded the maximum residue limit (MRL) or have measurement uncertainty that prevents accurate determination of compliance with the MRL.
