The 10 biggest emitters within Germany's industrial sector were all iron and steel plants in 2023. The most polluting facility was the ThyssenKrupp owned smelting works in the Western German city of Duisburg, which emitted 7.8 million metric tons of carbon dioxide (MtCO₂). Combined, Germany's 10 most polluting industrial facilities emitted roughly 35 MtCO₂ in 2023. The industrial sector is the second-largest source of emissions in Germany after the energy industry.
