In 2020, the majority of construction enterprises in the United States had less than ten employees. Nonetheless, there were some differences among the various industry categories. Residential building construction and specialty trade contractors, for example, had smaller enterprises on average, with more than half having less than 5 employees. Meanwhile, a greater proportion of non-residential and heavy and civil engineering construction firms had at least 100 employees.
