Between July 2022 and June 2023, Chile saw a total area of over 429,100 hectares affected by wildfires. This represented the highest figure recorded since the 2016-2017 period, when the total extent stuck by forest fires in the South American country reached a record high of approximately 570,200 hectares. Chile's average area affected by wildfires stood at 61.5 hectares per fire in 2022-2023.
