Mexico saw a total area of over 1,047 thousand hectares affected by wildfires in 2023. Just like the number of wildfires increased in 2023 when compared to the previous year, the overall affected extent increased by some 42 percent, up from approximately 735,205 hectares in 2023. Furthermore, this also represented Mexico's largest surface area struck by forest fires since at least 2015.
