In 2023, there were a total of 7,611 wildfires in Mexico. This represented an increase of some 13.2 percent in comparison to the previous year. During the period in consideration, the number of forest fires striking the Latin American country peaked in 2017, with a total of 8,896. Jalisco was the state with the highest number of wildfires in 2023.
