As of 2019/2020, the Cairo Metro, Egypt's subway running in Greater Cairo, generated almost 2.37 billion Egyptian pounds. This was an increase compared to around 1.99 billion Egyptian pounds in the previous year. In 2017/2018, the revenues generated experienced a significant jump due to a new price increase to the decade-long unified price of one Egyptian pound per trip. A new policy was implemented the year after, with the price being decided based on the length of the trip. Furthermore, the number of passengers using the Cairo Metro for transportation has dropped since 2017.
