Number of subway units in Egypt 2016-2020
In recent years, Egypt embarked on several public transport projects to accommodate the growing population's needs. Among the changes were the removal of the Heliopolis Metro, the oldest in Africa, and the Tram in 2014 to make way for road renovations and the introduction of new transportation facilities. The most famous is the newest underground (third-line metro) and the two branches of the Monorail, intended to connect 6th October City, west of Greater Cairo, to the New Administrative Capital, East of Greater Cairo.
