Number of public transport lines in Egypt 2015/2016-2019/2020
As of 2019/2020, the number of public transport routes in Egypt amounted to 1,613, covering almost 250,000 kilometers. Since 2017/2018, public transport lines have increased from around 1,380. Furthermore, informal private drivers play a significant role in transportation in Egypt and are harder to track. Indeed, almost 45 percent of the registered buses in the country were privately owned compared to 8.5 percent for public ones at the end of 2021.
