Foreign visitor number to Hyeonchoong-sa South Korea 2017-2023
In 2023, there have been 6.4 thousand foreign visitors to South Korea's Hyeongchoong-sa shrine. This was the highest number during the survey period. The shrine draws far less international tourists than the main attractions in the capital Seoul.Â
Hyeongchoong-sa is a shrine near the city of Asan dedicated to naval commander Yi Sun-sin, bearing his portrait. He defended the Joseon Dynasty of Korea against the Japanese invaders during the Imjin war of 1592 to 1598 and gained national fame for his exploits. Celebrated as a hero, there is also a statue of his in Gwanghwamun Plaza in Seoul.
