In 2023, the southern state of Karnataka had about 63 formally approved Special Economic Zones. SEZs are regions within the country that have, geographically, more liberal economic laws to promote Foreign Direct Investments from foreign investors as compared to the domestic law of the land. SEZs have their own specific set of laws.
