Since 2014, the crude death rate has remained below nine deaths per 1,000 population. The exception was the years 2020 and 2021 when the value was above 10.5 deaths, with the Covid-19 pandemic being the contributing factor to this increase. When compared to the national data, the city of Rio de Janeiro has a higher mortality rate than the national rate.
