Visitor number to Deoksugung Palace in South Korea 2012-2023
There have been around 3.1 million visitors to South Korea's Deoksugung Palace in 2023. This was an increase from approximately 2.59 million visitors in 2022. While the domestic visitor numbers of Seoul's two other major palaces, Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung, fell by over 80 percent and almost 75 percent respectively from 2019 to 2020, did Deoksugung's numbers drop by less than 60 percent in that period.
Deoksugung Palace is one of the "Five Grand Palaces" in Seoul, having temporarily served as a royal palace and residence during the Joseon Dynasty, which governed the Korean Peninsula from 1392 to 1897. Afterwards, it had been used by the Korean Emperor Gojong. Its grounds also include Western-style buildings, one of which serves as a location for the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art.
