Age-standardized male lung cancer mortality rate in South Africa 2008-2018
As of 2018, age-standardized mortality rate for lung cancer in males was highest amongst the colored population group with 17.92 deaths per 100,000 population. The Indian/Asian population group followed with 18.56 deceases per 100,000 population in the same year. The high rate for colored males could be attributed to smoking or scarring on the lungs caused by tuberculosis.
