Foreign visitor number to Gyeonbokgung Palace in South Korea 2012-2023
There have been approximately 1.09 million foreign visitors to Gyeongbokgung Palace in South Korea in 2023. Foreign visitor numbers have dropped sharply following the COVID-19 pandemic. From 2012 to 2019, there had been regularly more than a million foreign visitors.
The Gyeongbokgung Palace, originally built in 1395, was the main royal palace of the Joseon Dynasty, which ruled the Korean Peninsula from 1392 to 1897. It had been partly destroyed twice in history by Japanese forces, and now serves as one of the main attractions in the South Korean capital Seoul. Its premises also include the National Palace Museum and the National Folk Museum.
