In 2023, Norway was the major supplier of natural gas via pipelines to the European Union, which amounted to 84 billion cubic meters (bcm). In comparison, Russian pipeline natural gas amounted to 27 bcm. This was a result of the Russia-Ukraine war that led to the drastic decrease of the monthly natural gas imports from Russia into the EU as a result of sanctions.
