In 2020, just over one third of American adults surveyed believed that the United States should apologize for the atomic attacks on Japan during the Second World War, while over 40 percent believed that the should not apologize. When the responses are split by gender, the numbers are fairly aligned with responses regarding the justification of the attacks.
