The European Union imported 27 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas from Russia via pipelines in 2023. That was a significant decrease in comparison to the previous year, when the EU imports of natural gas via pipelines from Russia amounted to 63 bcm. This drastic decrease was due to the Russia-Ukraine war, which has resulted in EU sanctions on natural gas from Russia.
