In 2023, two typhoons approached the Kanto and Koshin region in Japan. The figure peaked in 2016 and 2018 at six typhoons. Most typhoons approached Japan between June and October, during the peak of the typhoon season. The tropical cyclones developed over the Pacific Ocean and were likely to approach Japan's southernmost prefecture Okinawa.

A typhoon is defined as approaching the Kanto and Koshin region, when the center of the typhoon comes within 300 kilometers of either of the meteorological offices of the prefectures.
