Rio de Janeiro area division 2015-2022

The municipality of Rio de Janeiro has an area of approximately 120,000 hectares. In 2022, 48 percent of the area corresponded to non-vegetated areas such as urbanized and mining zones. Since 2015, the non-vegetated areas have grown every year, reaching a record figure of 57,900 hectares in 2022, almost half of the total area. In contrast, the area devoted to agricultural and livestock farming has been decreasing since 2015, accounting for nearly 26,000 hectares in 2022, which corresponds to 22 percent of the total area.
