In 2022 in Australia, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), Australia's government authority for the evaluation, assessment, and monitoring of therapeutic goods in the country, found that one-third of vaping products containing nicotine did not comply with prohibited ingredient requirements.

314 vaping products were tested, of which 264 contained nicotine.
The TGA notes that products are tested for: Absence of prohibited ingredients. This test screens for the presence of the following ingredients: 2,3-pentanedione, acetoin, benzaldehyde, cinnamaldehyde, diacetyl, diethylene glycol, dl-alpha-tocopheryl acetate, ethylene glycol.
To comply with TGO 110, the presence of any of these compounds must be below a level of 10 ppm.
