As of March 2023, Airbnb did not feature any sponsored content. However, during an investor conference in San Francisco, Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky discussed the possibility of launching sponsored listings and an advertising platform. Third-party sources calculated that Airbnb's retail media business could generate roughly 317 million U.S. dollars in the first full year after the launch (in 2024, if the ad services business in launched in 2023), which would constitute approximately 0.5 percent of Airbnb's gross bookings value. By 2029, the ad revenue could explode to 3.7 billion dollars and three percent of gross bookings.
