Since 1850, Mexico has released more than 3.7 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (GtCO2e) worth of nitrous oxide into the atmosphere. More than 70 percent of Mexico's historical nitrous oxide emissions have been released since 1990. Nitrous oxide accounts for roughly eight percent of total greenhouse gas emissions in Mexico. Although less abundant than other greenhouse gases, nitrous oxide is roughly 300 times more potent than carbon dioxide and is an important contributor to climate change.

Exclusive Premium Statistic
To access all Premium Statistics, you need a paid Statista Account
Figures were calculated by Statista according to the values provided by the source.
Includes nitrous oxide emissions from fossil fuels, industry and agricultural sources.
Nitrous oxide emissions are measured in metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e), so are weighted for its 100-year global warming potential value.
