The German federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia accounted the largest electricity generating capacity in the country as of November 2022, with a capacity of approximately 41.7 gigawatts. The two largest federal states in Germany, Bavaria and Lower Saxony, followed with 33 and 27.9 gigawatts of power generating capacity, respectively. By comparison, the two smallest federal states in the country, Bremen and Hamburg, had a capacity of 1.6 and 0.6 gigawatts that year.
