As of the end of 2022, more than 95 percent of the geothermal heat pumps installed in France were used for individual heating. This figure amounted to 201,000 ground-based heat pumps extracting surface geothermal energy for the production of clean heat in French households. The services sector came second with 5,608 installed heat pumps as of that year.
