Battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) were the most popular electric vehicle type in Portugal in 2023, followed by plug-in hybrid electric vehicles with a petrol internal combustion engine. That same year, plug-in electric vehicle sales, including BEVs and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, were the highest on record since 2019.
