Changes in electricity production in the United States 2023, by source
Gas and solar power accounted for the largest year-on-year increase in electricity generation in the United States between 2022 and 2023. Electricity production from natural gas increased almost 115 terawatt-hours that year. By comparison, power production from coal decreased by some 156 terawatt-hours. In 2022, the share of electricity generated from renewables in the United States reached 22.5 percent.
