In 2022, greenhouse gas emissions in India were estimated at 3.8 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (GtCO2e). According to World Data Lab, this figure is forecast to increase up to 8.1 GtCO2e by the year 2050 if no advancement in reducing emissions intensities is made, such as through new technologies and policies. However, under a scenario consistent with limiting global warming to 1.5 degree Celsius, India's emissions would drop to 1.1 GtCO2e by that same year.
