The greater part of those graduating with a PhD in artificial intelligence (AI) education have gone to work in industry and the private market. While the second largest group is academia it has remained relatively constant since 2016, with between 65-75 graduates going into academia. This means that the driving force behind growth in AI has been the private market as there is more and more need for workers with advanced AI skills. Government remains a stable market for a few PhD candidates but the number has never reached double digits.
