According to a 2022 survey, men were slightly more vulnerable to online shopping scams than women. The percentage of men who reported losing money to e-commerce scams was 72.7 percent, compared to 72.4 percent among women.

The study is based on two sets of data:
- An analysis of more than 300,000 reports submitted to BBB Scam Tracker between 2015 and 2022.
- A survey conducted in July 2022 with almost 3,000 people who reported a scam in the last 12 months.
