In Portugal, the number of households wired with optical fiber increased from 5.5 million in 2020 to more than 5.9 million in 2023. This figure was more expressive in the Lisbon region, where there were 1.6 million households with optical fiber, in 2023. Even though the number of households with this type of telecommunications connection increased in all Portuguese regions, it was in Azores that it was less prominent, as there were only 119,000 households covered by this service.
