Cash payment over the counter were the most commonly known method to pay taxes and pension premiums in Japan, according to a survey conducted from February to March 2023. Over 76 percent of respondents knew that tax and pension contribution payments could be made over the counter at financial institutions. Around 15 percent were aware of the payment service Pay-easy, which allows consumers to pay taxes, pension premiums, public utility charges, and other service charges via computers, mobile phones, and ATMs.

Pay-easy is a service that allows consumers to make payment via computers, mobile phones, and ATMs for taxes, pension premiums, public utility charges, and other service charges.
The source used a stratified two-stage random sampling method. Responses were collected via mail or online.
