The element with the highest known melting point is Tungsten, while the element with the highest known boiling point is Rhenium. On the opposite end of the scale, Helium has both the lowest known melting and boiling point. Standard room temperature is approximately 293 Kelvin - elements with boiling points below this figure occur as gases at room temperature, while elements with melting points above are solids at room temperature. Bromine and Mercury are the only two elements with melting points and boiling points on either side of this figure, therefore they are the only two elements that occur as liquids at room temperature. Elements within the same chemical group blocks often have similar characteristics, for example, noble gases such as Neon, Krypton, and Xenon all have very close melting and boiling points, while transition metals may have melting and boiling points that are several thousand Kelvin apart.
