Buying cheaper groceries was the most common action Japanese consumers took in response to inflation, as revealed in a survey conducted by Rakuten Insight in March 2023. More than half of respondents stated that they bought cheaper groceries to cope with the recent price inflations. Actively seeking out deals was the second most common action, with 49 percent of female and 42 percent of male respondents making use of coupons and discounts.
