As of 2024, Oceania had the highest percentage of state-owned investor (SOI) female executives. The Middle East and North Africa ranked lowest, having 14 percent of their executive-level SOI positions filled by women.
State-owned investors typically refer to institutions that manage and organize funds on behalf of the state. These funds commonly include sovereign wealth funds (SWF) and public pension funds (PPF). These funds are used to power state initiatives to improve local living standards.
Public pension fund assets are managed by state-created agencies using a passive management strategy to enable long-term investment growth with the purpose to provide compensation for eligible citizens upon their exit from the workforce. Sovereign wealth funds are similarly structured. However, the purpose is often to generate profit for the state to use in times of need or to power specific state initiatives and projects.
