A 2022 survey asked online consumers in the United States to select the top three priorities they thought a retailer should have. Approximately 27 percent of respondents aged between 18 and 44 mentioned excellent and/or personalized customer service, an option also chosen by 24 percent of the interviewees aged 45 and above. According to the same study, almost half of U.S. internet users thought advertising and marketing personalization often felt invasive.
