Lower costs were the leading reason for at-home drinking in Japan, as revealed in a survey conducted in May 2022. Over 62 percent of respondents stated that it is more affordable to consume alcoholic beverages at home than at a drinking establishment. Other commonly named benefits were related to convenience and flexibility, like the possibility to go to sleep immediately and the freedom of changing the drinking environment according to personal preferences.
