Clerical support workers positions are most at risk of being automated by artificial intelligence (AI) in the Euro area in 2023. As these positions are often about the precision of specific tasks, and less likely to encounter gray area evaluation situations, they are the optimal positions to automate with an AI. The least likely positions to be automated are detailed and individualistic positions, such as those of specific industries or within crafts and trade positions.
Similar trends in the western world
The United States is dealing with trends similar to its cross-Atlantic counterparts. Those positions that deal with simple, easily automated, cut-and-dry processes are the most likely ones to be automated. Office and administrative support, legal, engineering, follow clearly outlined rules, and each project does not vary greatly. By contrast, in the U.S., it is the specialist installations and building maintenance that is least likely to be automated, as each individual case can be quite different.
Domestic tasks are likely to be automated as well
Even the sanctity of the home is unlikely to be free from the involvement of AI automation. Chief among the tasks expected to be automated are shopping trips, particularly grocery shopping. But all tasks are likely to be nearly 15-25 percent automated within the next five years. Unsurprisingly, the tasks related to childrearing and childcare are the least likely to be automated, most likely because people are very unlikely to appreciate machine involvement in their child’s early life.
