Shortly after Russia invaded Ukraine, the Canadian government committed to welcoming an unlimited number of Ukrainian refugees, creating a program that would allow them and their families to live and work in Canada for up to three years on fast-track visas. This program, called Canada-Ukraine authorization for emergency travel (CUAET), was set to expire on March 31, 2023.
When surveyed in February 2023, three-quarters of Canadians were in favour of extending the program, with the most support coming from respondents who voted for the Bloc Québécois and the Liberal Party in the 2021 federal election, while only 30 percent of People's Party voters shared this view.
Shortly after this survey, the Canadian authorities indeed decided to extend this program.
