Frozen meals have becoming more popular

In the last few years, convenience foods have become more popular in China as younger generations live fast-paced lives. In China's cities, young workers spend longer hours at work and commute, which leaves them with little time to cook. It has become increasingly common for them to eat frozen meals as an alternative. More than 50 percent of the frozen foods sold in China were rice and flour products, such as dumplings and pancakes.

Leaders in China’s frozen meal market

In China, the frozen flour and rice product market is relatively concentrated, with three leading players holding nearly two-thirds of the market. Founded in 1992, Sanquan Food was China’s largest frozen meal manufacturer. In addition to frozen dumplings, the company also produced flour pastry products and glutinous rice balls. In 2023, the company's revenue reached 7.06 billion yuan.
