The total amount of plug-in electric vehicle models on sale in the European Union is forecast to overtake petrol and diesel models by 2024, reaching a projected 61 percent of all available vehicle models in 2026. This growth is expected to be spearheaded by battery-electric vehicles, which are projected to grow from 18 percent of available models in 2022 to 44 percent in 2026. In contrast, automakers plan to decrease their reliance on internal combustion engine vehicles.

Data includes new models, new generations, facelifts of existing models, as well as discontinued vehicle models when applicable. The data is based on plans that were announced by manufacturers as of March 2023.
