In 2023, approximately 615,000 women and 247,000 men were hospitalized in Peru. The most common cause of hospitalization among women was due to pregnancy, childbirth, and puerperium, with more than 329,000 hospital admissions. In comparison, digestive system diseases were the leading cause of hospitalizations among men, with about 51,000 cases recorded that year.
