The home production of Hungary's signature spirit, pálinka, has a long standing tradition. Since 2016, producers have been obliged to purchase a distillate tax stamp for every liter of pálinka produced. During the considered years, the number of distillate stamps issued peaked in 2019 at nearly 156 thousand. By comparison, home producers purchased 109 thousand stamps in 2020.
