Number of digital banks in Europe 2014-2022
The number of digital banks in Europe grew steadily between 2014 and 2022, although the growth rate slowed down significantly in 2021 and 2022. As of 2022, there were 162 digital banks in Europe, only one more than a year before that, and four more than in 2020. In comparison, the number of digital banks in Europe doubled between 2014 and 2017. In 2022, the leading neobank based on the number of customers was Revolut, followed by Wise.
