As of 2023, Mexico had an estimated overweight and obesity prevalence of around 75 percent of its adult population. In that year, a study found that overweight prevalence was higher in the urban area of the North American country, where approximately 37.5 percent of interviewed adults suffered from this health condition. Obesity was also more prevalent in the urban area, reaching around 37.5 percent of adults aged 20 years or older. People with a body mass index (BMI) equal to or larger than 30 kg/m² are considered as having obesity.

To measure the dietary level of the population, anthropometric parameters were taken in the households interviewed. A body mass index (BMI) was calculated according to WHO criteria (normal, overweight, and obese).
