As of 2023, the proposed budget for Lagos reached 1.69 trillion Nigerian naira, roughly 3.68 billion U.S. dollars. This was was the largest among all 36 states. Akwa Ibom, Delta, and Rivers followed with proposed budgets of approximately 700 billion (1.52 billion U.S. dollars), 562 billion (1.22 billion U.S. dollars), and 551 billion Nigerian naira (1.2 billion U.S. dollars), respectively.
As of the same year, all of the aforementioned states received an approval for state budgets that were higher than the proposed ones.
