Wind energy accounted for the largest year-on-year increases in electricity production in the European Union in 2023 with over 50 terawatt-hours. In contrast, the use of coal for electricity generation decreased by almost 113 terawatt-hours that year. Gas electricity also decreased considerably in the EU by over 86 terawatt-hours.
